If anyone has driven around Boerne the first week in May, they cannot help but notice that it is Large Item pickup time. Some of these items look to be in good condition and for whatever reason are now sitting on the curb waiting to go into the landfill.

I'll never forget when I asked Kathy to serve on the Board of Directors 6 years ago. I was a bit hesitant in asking her to serve because I knew her Real Estate career at Keller Williams in Boerne was keeping her very busy and wasn't sure if she needed another thing on her plate.

I started volunteering at the HCAL spay/neuter clinic in the Fall of 2008 after retiring from many years in the insurance business. Although I mostly do office work, primarily writing thank you notes to donors, it is very rewarding to be a small part of helping the welfare of our animal friends.

I found the HCAL thrift store – and it is fun! The mission is outstanding and most importantly, the people are warm and friendly. I have been volunteering almost 10 years and I look forward to the next 10 years.

By volunteering at HCAL every summer, I have been taught responsibility and dedication. Through the hands on learning I received, I absorbed everything I could about animal care and responsibility as a pet owner. The ability to help and serve at HCAL has inspired me to devote my life to the betterment of the Hill Country animal community as well! So spay and neuter your pets!
