Each spring, the Hill Country Animal League Spay/Neuter Clinic (HCAL) located at 924 N. Main accepts applications for student summer volunteers. The applicants are interviewed and accessed before being accepted into our Young Volunteer Program. Many of the volunteers are interns from the area High School Health Science Programs or the 4-H Veterinary Science Program. Still more are from our own HCAL extended family. These young volunteers are energetic, inquisitive, and dedicated!
We are so thankful for all our volunteers! We encourage the young people participating in the Young Volunteer Program to keep journals of their experiences assisting in a high volume, low cost spay/neuter clinic. These experiences have transformed many of the past young volunteers to pursue work in the veterinary and medical fields.
This summer, these young volunteers have put in collectively more than 278 hours. Every August, to celebrate this amazing accomplishment, we throw a party. This year, this great group of young volunteers decided on an old fashion, back yard shrimp boil! Our Medical Director, Bernie Page along with Executive Director, Jackie Palmer and Clinic Manager, JJ Blackson boiled shrimp, then presented Certificates of Appreciation to the participants in the Young Volunteer Program! A big THANK YOU to all of our volunteers and thank you all for a great summer!
