HCAL Call for Donors

Why Our Donors Give: A Community Committed to Pet Welfare

Here at Hill Country Animal League (HCAL), our mission is simple: to provide affordable spay and neuter services, vaccinations, and preventative care to help reduce pet overpopulation and improve the lives of animals in our community.

But we don’t do it alone. Our donors, volunteers, and supporters are the backbone of everything we accomplish. And if you’ve ever wondered why people choose to donate to HCAL, let’s hear it directly from those who already do.

Shifting Perspectives: From Rescue to Prevention

One of our donors recently shared a powerful sentiment:

“As much as we love supporting local rescues (which we still do with treat donations), we have changed our mindset to educate, advocate, and communicate responsible pet ownership—getting pets vaccinated and spayed or neutered to reduce and hopefully one day eliminate the need for kill shelters.”

This is why HCAL exists. While rescue work is critical, true change happens when we prevent the cycle of unwanted litters from the start. Every donation to HCAL directly funds spay and neuter surgeries, ensuring fewer animals end up in shelters.

Community Events & Partnerships: Making an Impact Together

We love seeing donors support us through multiple avenues, including our annual Barktoberfest and our Thrift Store, which directly funds our mission. One donor recently said:

“We love supporting your annual Barktoberfest and Thrift Store, and look forward to working with you in 2025 to make your mission of serving our community the best year yet!”

Our Thrift Store proceeds and event fundraising allow us to serve more families and pets in need. If you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to give back, consider shopping, volunteering, or sponsoring our events—every effort counts!

Helping the Helpers: Supporting Feral Cat Care

Animal rescue groups, like the Blanco County Cat Coalition, depend on us to keep their Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts going strong. One of their members recently sent us this message:

“You always help Blanco County Cat Coalition spay/neuter our feral cats. Thanks for your service!”

Without donor support, these critical partnerships wouldn’t be possible. Your donation ensures that local rescue groups have access to affordable spay/neuter services, helping to control stray populations and improve the lives of community cats.

A Culture of Compassion & Giving Back

We often hear stories of gratitude from pet owners who trust us with their beloved animals. One of our recent clients shared:

“Thank you for taking care of Butters! My fee was waived due to a tiny error during his treatment, so I’m donating that plus a little extra.”

Another family, after bringing in their pet for surgery, said:

“Thank you for your care with Gino yesterday for his neuter surgery. Staff was very caring and explained everything.”

These testimonials highlight the compassion and integrity of our team. We never want financial hardship to prevent a pet from receiving care, and thanks to donors, we can continue offering low-cost services and financial assistance to pet owners in need.

Be Part of the Solution: Your Support Matters

Whether it’s a one-time donation, a recurring gift, or simply shopping at our thrift store, every contribution makes a difference. As one supporter put it:

“You do wonderful work!!”

Another donor summed it up perfectly:

“Thank you for making the animals in our community a priority!”

If you believe in responsible pet ownership, reducing euthanasia rates, and keeping animals healthy, now is the time to give. Your support ensures that we can continue providing these life-saving services to pets in need.
